Hotel Lancaster, Paris. Patricia Arquette
sinks back on a couch of the Marlene Dietrich-Suite. Four
journalists are sitting in front of her, waiting to question her about Lost Highway. She wears the same light silk costume like at the Cannes Festival two years ago. You can`t smell any perfume, but there are really yellow rings around the iris of her blue eyes. The interview begins. Patricia Arquette lights a Marlboro Lights. In modernen fairy tales, princesses may do so. It all started one night in 1967. Mike Arquette has a dream: His grandmother appeared to him, running down a hill hand in hand with a little blonde haired girl. Mike eventually tells his wife Brenda about his dream and they decide to have another baby. Patricia is born April 8th 1968 . She`s raised in a family with five children in the wilderness of Virginia. Her mother is a Muslim, her father Jewish, both are members of the Subud-cult for a period of time. They bring their children with them to protest against nuclear power stations and for sightseeings in Greece. Patricia loves eating chicken. She remembers the time her parents were divorced only in black and white. At the age of twelve, she´s being arrested for shoplifting. Patricia insists on being presented to a female psychologist. When she takes a seat there, she instantly falls into a comatose sleep. Patricia bathes in darkness, because she can`t stand her naked body. When she loses her virginity she hasn`t put off a single piece of clothing. Raised in a family of actors,Patricia becomes an actress herself. Yet she turns down the role in Last Exit Brooklyn": She´s pregnant and unwilling to confront the embryo with a rape scene. The father, Paul Rossi, a musician, leaves Patricia after the birth of their child Enzo. In 1987, Patricia meets Nicolas Cage at a diner. His second phrase is: I want you to marry me. They date, Patricia senses they are still too young for this love. She plays for time, demands him to do excercises: Bring me a black orchid! An autograph by J. D. Salinger... The following day, a violet orchid painted black lies at her front door. The autograph follows. Patricia`s heading for the emergency exit, and they remain best friends. True Romance (1993) makes Patricia Arquette a star, roles in Ed Wood and Rangoon follow, for the latter film she lives in Malaysia for six months. Back in L.A., Patricia lifts up the receiver asking Nic: Do you want to marry me? The engraving on her weddingring reads "Diana", the one on his Zeus. Last question please! A fellow journalist asks what it feels like after being cast in a psychotic role in David Lynch`s Lost Highway. Enzo once said: If you want to lead a good life, you have to eat the heart of a chicken. I thought how lucky I am for I remembered eating the heart of a chicken as a young girl! She lights a Marlboro, today princesses may do so. Karl-Heinz Schäfer |
