This version was only produced after executives rejected a previous script by Lynch in which a woman has a dream sequence involving a decomposing ear, a yak in a harlequin suit, and a dwarf gynacologist with a freakishly long index finger.

Clear Blue Easy decided on Lynch after rejecting Martin Scorcese's version where the women finds out she's been impregnated by her brutal husband, who wrestles with a "madonna-whore" complex, and fears that she would rather sleep with his brother, so he smashes her face."
